Setting first eggs tomorrow - 3/23

And it looks like one of my hens has gone broody. she was in the nesting box last night and she's been in there most of the day today and just got mad at me for trying to take the eggs...I think she's sitting on 6. I'll have to check later, maybe take a couple away.

Candled the question marks from Day 7 today (Day 11). Culled two clears and the one that had a hole in it, although it was veining nicely. Made me sad, but it sounds too risky to leave it in. I wasn't brave enough to autopsy even the clears. The two darkest ones are still question marks, but the other two had veining! Now we wait a week until lock down.

Ok, I recandled tonight with a good flashlight. I had to remove a total of 8 out of 42 eggs. :( Most were infertile, a couple were early quitters. 2 olive eggs I couldn't see a thing in, not even the air cell, so I left them in. I had a couple Marans eggs that were too datk to see into so I left them in as well. Hope the remaining eggs make it!!! I've decided that I'm going to hatch in cartons. I spent about an hour cutting up egg cartons. :p I know it's a little soon but I like to be prepared.

Good deal. I plan in removing the rails in the incubator and just laying all the eggs down in there come time fr lockdown...only 6 days away

I removed four eggs yesterday, including the one I put in upside down :( Surprisingly the store bought eggs are doing great! It's hard for me to believe they'll be hatching in about a week.

I also candled yesterday and removed 3 more. One more iffy but the shell is to dark to be certain. I'm down to 6 (maybe 7) from the beginning 18. :(.
I got anxious and ordered a dozen purebred SQ buckeye eggs.
Yippy!! Let the hatch addiction continue!

I have two iffy ones as well that are very dark. I honestly have no idea on them, but they don't smell so I'm leaving them in. I'm sorry you're lost so many

. Very exciting about the Buckeyes, though! Will you add them in with the current eggs or do you have two incubators? I'm going to set April 25th next, so day 21 will be on my birthday (May 15th). I ordered 12 English Orpington eggs and 6 Silkie. I was hoping for 12 but all the silkies have gone broody

I currently have 2 bators and I'm debating buying a new Brinsea for the buckeyes. So sick of the LG still air crap. Bluk! I love silkies!! I have 4, 8 week old Catdance silkies. And I'm pretty sure 3 are Roos. :(. Ugg. I will have to sell 2 of them here soon, but ill wait until I'm certain that there Roos.

Took 2 more out last night. They were already 'iffy' ones from the other night. I think I have 32 out of 42 left, the majority being shipped eggs. The rest look good though. Hope they make it to lockdown!! This is the last batch in the LG still air, then I will retire it and use it only for a hatcher. My Genesis is waiting and ready! I'll be setting more eggs this coming Saturday. I still have another incubator going with about 40 quail eggs and also I stuck 4 frizzle eggs in there. Those are what's left after candling last night. Only had to toss a few. Due date for the quail is the 14th! :D I'm gonna have sooooo many babies in the house!
Anyway, just checking in with everyone. Lockdown is Tuesday for me. :)
