Setting on Good Friday

Well, I've got my hygrometers and thermometers out and ready to go. I should just go ahead and put new batteries in them now cause I don't want them to go out during incubation.

Perhaps the bators and turners will be set up before the end of the day.

My eggs are shipping on Monday, and this will be my first attempt. I could use the fellowship. Please count me in!

My homemade incubator has been fired up since Friday and we tweak and tune the temp and humidity. I think I'm at the point where we should be. I hope so, anyway. There's not much more I can do.

It is great, it looks like there are 5 of us at this point. Rocky Phoenix, i love chickens, Mahonri, Engteacher and myself motherof4. I hope everyone keeps the group updated. as for me. I now have 7 eggs set aside for next Friday. well see what the girls give me today. I think I'm doing ok with the eggs I gather, I'm keeping them in a open egg carton in my shed. nights are low 45 and days are high 72. they are staying dry and safe. any thoughts about that?

I would think it would be just fine. I'm hoping my dozen Wellies make safe journey here to MN. I'm a bit nervous about candling such dark eggs, but what's the worst that could happen? One could explode, I suppose.

Ah, well...I'll figure it out along the way.

My bigger issue is that I don't have a coop yet. We can't pour concrete until the first week of May. We'll have chickens in the garage, I guess. I'll give up my parking spot for having home grown eggs.

I'm so excited! Thanks for getting this group going!

Last year my son made a small run 8x2x2 going along the inside on his garage that kept his baby chicks for 6 or so weeks, before moving them to there outside home. I'm sorry to say that he lost all his chickens late last year and so I went and moved his 8x2x2 to my yard for my 14 babes I have. It took 6- 2x4x8's and chicken wire. not bad and very strong.

I was just looking at the calendar and realized that April 23 is our expected hatch date if we set on Good Friday.

What's unique and interesting about April 23rd, you might ask.

That's William Shakespeare's birthday!

Okay, so maybe it takes an English teacher to get all excited about that, but seriously...How cool is that!
