Setting on Good Friday

I set 12 Buff Orps on 4/1 and 12 Brahmas on 4/2. I was expecting 12 banty mix today ... but no dice. Looks like I will have a staggered hatch!!

Oh and this is my first time using a bator! My husband did take 2 eggs from the fridge (they were from my Aunt's flock and were in the fridge for almost 2 wks) and got them almost to pip using a 100 watt light bulb and a cooler once. The humidity was real low and the chicks did not hatch. We opened the eggs and the chicks were fully formed .. but shrink wrapped.

I'm all sorts of nervous about shipped eggs though ... so we will see what happens! I will just flip if I get half of these eggs to actually hatch!

Well it sounds like you all got off to a good start. I started this page off and want and will keep up on how you are all doing, but I had a hitch in my plans on setting on good Friday.I won't be home on the 23rd so i can't set until this coming Wed 4-7-10 I will be 6 days behind you all.

I was amazed that all of my eggs made it by Wednesday. They all shipped on Monday... from WI, TX and MD!

I sure hope I'm getting some development.

I have so far 36 in hovabator some silkie some ee and mixed which my polish roos have been jumping everyone should be interesting hatch. I am collecting for another day then filling up the other bator. I have a sexlink if you can believe it sitting on a clutch of eggs has not moved all week and a muscovy duck on a clutch. Is it alright that they are in the coop with all the other chickens i mean there babies will be safe when they hatch from the other birds????

My Blue Jersey Giant hen decided to go broody, so after about 3 days of setting on a nest that other hens kept laying in, I moved her and a fresh batch of 16 mixed (my projects) LF eggs to private quarters. Day 1 was April 1st. And the reason I was able to let her sit is because I am finally getting a walk in coop! The lumber will be here tomorrow.

And once this 12 x 20 coop is finished, we will build another one! That one I'll have to split a room off for our cats, but, thats ok.

I've been depressed because I couldn't do what I wanted to do with my projects since my space was limited.

Well, it looks like the hard drive on my laptop has fried. The computer turns on but after the Welcome (Windows Vista) all there is, is a black screen with my mouse pointer. No Desktop, no nothing.

I had started to back up my entire drive on Friday with Carbonite and I was about half way through backing up everything. So, I may have only lost half of what I had. Who knows.

Needless to say, I won't be coming on during work (no laptop!) and I will be limited to the time I can spend on this computer in the family room.

Always something, I'm praying I can get it back to normal and pray I don't have to buy a new computer.

OMG I almost had complete disaster i ck the bator several times a day early tonight i told hubby i smell a bad egg. Which can be hard to locate once the smell is all in the bator. So told him in the morn we got to find it . So i decided at 2 am while lying in bed not being able to sleep i best look one more time. Well TG I did it had started to ouze out so lifted lid got it out and wiped the spot it was in with a wet paper towel quickly > so lid was open maybe 2 mins which i figure is ok better then a exploded egg the smell was so nasty

. I hope it is the only one and hope the smell leaves quickly for my other babies > so you know why i had it open i had to cheat and look at a few with the flashlight LOl i saw start of viens in one.

So i hope that all will be smoothe from here out. So what i learned is that if u feel you should look one more time trust your gutt or u might have a explosion

WOW Its so quite on this thread right now how is everyone doing? I am so dying to candle but waiting till thursday maybe later. Trying to keep busy and not think about it I am collecting one last set of eggs today to put in second bator. I have a few silkies and i hope some fluers i am going to start working on new houses so i can pair up my rares to avoid mixs.
