Setting on Good Friday

I don't hardly ever candle, until they go to lockdown. BUT, since I had to open the Sportsman to move some other eggs out .... I did a quick glance at the Islandics .... ALL of them show veining! YAY ! !

Congrats Dale-Ann ! What projects are you working on?

I've got several projects planned. I love 2-3 colors or tones and it doesn't matter if they are barred, spangled, laced, speckled, mottled etc. I like the size of the Jersey Giant, clean legged breeds, friendly but not aggressive personalities, good large egg layers that average at least 4 or so a week and lay decently in the winter. I am not particular about the egg color. I like broodiness. I would rather they have small combs, too, but, not particular about type.
I've got 3 BA (comb, egg production) hens in my older flock running with my Black Jersey Giant (size and personality) and my Mille Fleur Leghorn (color) roosters. In that flock I also have a Mille Fleur leghorn hen (color), 2 BO's (winter laying and egg production), 2 partridge rocks (color and size) , 2 barred rocks(color, personality and egg production), 4 NHRs(personality and production), 1 RIR (color), 1 Production red (I dunno -- egg production --I guess), 1 Blue Jersey Giant (personality, size and color) and 2 EEs (combs, color and large eggs). This is the flock that the 16 eggs came from that my blue hen is setting on. The major goal with this is a crazy colored (possibly Mille Fleur) on a small combed, extra large sized chicken, good layer of large sized eggs, with a friendly personality.

I also, love Australorp crosses. I have a young trio of Production Red x BA and a BO x BA cockrel. I want to see what the F2 and F3 generations will look like especially once I add some Mille Fleur x BA crosses.

I also have plans for the pair of Lav orps you sold me. With them, I have a couple of Mille-Fleur leghorn chicks not quite at POL and one looks like a cockrel. I'd like some isabella porscelin chicks to work with. I have some other ideas for them also...like lav Australorps and adding lav to my EE's, one of which has a lav (or blue) tail and hackle feathers. I'd also like to get some black orps to continue the lav orp project!

And there are other ideas spinning around, too, and it's making me dizzy.

I'm having a terrible time candling. My eggs are SO dark and since this is my first hatch, I don't really know what I'm looking for. I could see a dark mass on two of my 15, but the others weren't obvious enough for me to say "Yeah, that one is developing."

Any tips? I've looked through all the candling stickies already.
