Ok............came home to five more chickies. Only one egg hasnt hatched. I candled it and cant see anything moving but at one point I felt like something shocked me. Was it maybe the baby tapping on the egg? I put it back. I know I broke the cardinal rule by even opening the bator, but I figured if the baby was dead it wouldnt matter anyway. They all were suppose to hatch by today. Most of them hatched out last night and I woke up to six baby chicks, then five more while I was at work. So out of a dozen eggs. 11 hatched. Pretty good hatch rate. So.......should I give the other egg a little more time? especially since I felt a weird sensation while trying to see movement? Any help, and hand slapping...............will be appreciated.
I have several eggs that I noticed have pipped. Worried a little about two of them because it looks like they pipped on the wrong end. I will be gone all day tomorrow too.
OK I am all done last 2 I assisted as had pipped first thing and beaks were out of the pipped part of shell, by 10pm no more movement but could see membrane was very dry even though I had whacked humidity up to 80%. Candled the last 4 eggs whilst incubator open and they had stopped developing so got them out.
So out of 24 eggs from my lovely hens I got 18 chicks so am very happy - setting up incubator and will transfer all but the last 2 to it later today and give them a bit more time to fluff up - although they look good this morning.
Good luck to all of those that are still waiting or going into lockdown now - I am exhausted and looking forward to some full nights sleep.
