Good morning everyone... Well, it is for me anyway.. I'm sure most of you are sleeping right now since it is 3:40 AM here in NC... Amanda and I are doing shifts at night.. I will sleep for a few hours and then she will sleep.. Although, I get a lot less sleep because she has to wake me up every 2 hours to add water and bring the humidity back up... UGH!! This is gonna be a long few days.... But, well worth it!!

As for my update... I went to sleep around 10:30 with 2 pips that hadn't done anything else.. When I woke up, I had 5 pips and one of the pips from earlier today had started to zip.. Of course, it's one in the back of the bator and it's zipping downwards so i can't see nuttin! The biggest thing i am concerned with is that one of them is pipped at the WRONG END!!!!!! I'm still holding out hope because I know a lot of people on here have had them hatch our backwards but it's more likely they will drown at the small end.. It's in the back of the bator also and eventhough the humidity only drops by about 2% if I open it, I'm not about to lose the rest of the hatch to save one.. So, I guess I will see how it goes... Is it true that if they are backwards in the shell, most times they won't even pip the shell if they aren't going to make it because they drowned? Part of the shell is gone and there is a small line in the membrane where it broke through.. I don't see any movement but it's only happened in the last few hours so it may be resting... Heck, if it weren't for the pieces of shell on the shelf liner, I wouldn't have known it pipped at all!

You're right!!! I was watching (can't seem to keep my eyes off!) and it poked a hold straight through the membrane and then I started hearing peeping!!!!

WE HAVE A CHICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Little one was hatched and completely free from it's shell at 5:40 am! Would have been about 30 minutes sooner but it got a toe caught in the membrane of the bottom part of the shell!

OMG OMG OMG - though I heard chirping last night - checked before I went to bed 1am and one had pipped - was so excited hardly slept woke this morning and 4 more have pipped and can hear lots of periodic chirping. All seems to be progressing slowly though so hope all is OK.

What a wonderful experience - I am so hooked I am planning my next hatch already - bidding on some different eggs that I dont have - this batch is special as all my own but would like to introduce new blood/breeds to the coop over time.

Took a photo but not sure how to upload yet.

Things can go very slowly.. From pip to start of zip, this first one took about 12 hours.. Then it took another two hours to zip and hatch.. As for chirping, I never heard anything until the start of zipping...
