Hi

So have I! I got a 8 x 10 foot green house once from the San Antonio FreeCycle! All my husband had to do was go take it down

and bring it home - great price - free just labor

! It's a great way to get rid of unwanted appliances too with out sending them to the dump!

Yeah, I do that too. Occasionally I actually find something useful. Another place to go is Freecycle.org and look for your community and join up. I've gotten (and given) a lot of cool things on freecycle.org.

Egg did not make it. I candeled today and did not see any changes. I opened it up and found only a small little chick that appears to have stopped not long after I found the problem. I am sure that air cell down would have caused issues at hatching.

Also, after looking at the calender, I think I will do lockdown on Sunday instead of late friday. If the day I set does not count as day 1 (9/14), then Sunday would be day 18.

Thanks for the info

Sorry to hear the chick did not make it. I put a egg in the bator upside down befor (actually a few) but left them after I realized the mistake. I did not get any chicks out of that batch as I had a temperature loss early on in the process.

When is everyone going to lockdown? I think I will on Monday afternoon after work...my last hatch was due on Thursday and I woke up on Monday morning to a baby about to pop out, fully zipped while still in the egg turner and the humidity was still only at 50%?

This hatch I kept my humidity down to between 40-50% (it was too high last hatch and I had problems with my last 4 to hatch) and I am aiming to keep it between 70-75% for hatch...I know it should be but last hatch I must had over filled the trays or something as the humidity went way up over 80%...

Trying to keep my hands off the bator!... It's like honey to a bee!

My first time hatching silkies...I'm so excited to see all the colors that I will get.

I went into lockdown yesterday morning. Last night one chick hatch - and so far this morning 4 more - with 5 others pipping. This is so exciting! I told hubby I didn't think I could possibly leave the incubator long enough to go to church this morning! I set these eggs on Sept. 12th.

Humidity is controlled by the amt of surface area of the water. The level of the water has no effect.

I am going into Lockdown today on 28 RIRs.

Yes, thanks...I meant that because I filled it too full it bleed across the wire floor...I tried to mop it up but it was too late...the floor got wet and bleed I to other troughs...I will be careful this time...

Locked Down....

I lost one more Sumatra. Eggs are off turner, most are in egg cartons, filled water channels and added wet sponges. Temp is at 99 at egg level, humidity at 55% and climbing.

I quess I just wait now??

I go into lockdown I think Wed or so..man I really keep wanting to candle these eggs. I am not going to till Wed and if I don't see most of the egg dark I"m opening them. I don't think they are good. I think I got a batch too early on my rooster. I know he's getting most of them now but I was just really hoping. I did toss 3 already on the last candling because they were sloshy and there was nothing there. They are not oozing or smelling or anything but they didn't look dark enough last time I candled them. We will see...I hate waiting. Why can't chicks hatch the next day!! lol
