setting today 9/15/11 - anyone else?

Locked down 3 white serama this afternoon. Built a cooler hatcher for this set until my Genesis #1588 arrives later this week. Exciting!

I am using a Genesis 1588 and going lockdown tonight...4th time using it and almost 100% hatch rate each time with shipped eggs and a complete novice here...love the genesis. So easy.

I am waiting till dark so I can candle before I lockdown...tick, tock, tick, tock!

Ok so I just locked mine down...16 BBS and white silkie eggs...but one didn't look like it had progressed enough...I am nervous as I put them in egg cartons to hatch this time...never used that method before...

Locked down 11 eggs this morning; I'm trying the cupcake papers to keep them from rolling around so much and drowning some. Last hatch, I had several to drown because they were rolled with the pip on the underside. Crossing fingers for a great hatch for all of us!

I'm a bit confused -- could you explain how the drowning occurred?

Was there water someplace? This is new to me, but I've only done about 7 hatches, so this is educational.

The egg was rolled and the pip wound up on the bottom; all the liquid in the egg ran down to the bottom and drowned the chick. Happens most when the incubator isn't very full, which happens when I stagger the hatches. Plus, when the eggs have been rolled around a lot, I open the incubator more, to check them. *slaps hands* I won't be handling the eggs as much this hatch because I won't have to check to see if the pip is on the bottom now.

Mine go into lockdown tomorrow. I have 8 cochin/silkie crosses. Hope to get some cochin, silkie, and frizzles out of it. Then I have 10 campines (silver/gold) going into lockdown on Friday!!!! My first 3 staggard hatches did not make it. This time I have tried the dry hatching method.
