Day 2 of no power

I have been running a generator off and on to heat up the incubator but can not run it constanlty. Hope the 9 that were doing great survive this

they are on day 12. We have no idea when the power will be back on.

Julie i had a similar situation with this batch of Tolbunt Polish chicks, we also used a generator off and on mostly to keep the meat in the freezer . What i did use is some of those heat wraps for arthritis. You can get them at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS ect. When the generator wasn't running i placed one of these heat pads on top of the incubator and covered the whole thing with a towel. I did this for 3 days running and out of 9 eggs that were developing i had 5 hatch sucessfully. Good luck and i hope you get your electricity soon! Ruth

Hey just thought I would give you guys a update. My khaki duck eggs came today, the lady I bought them from sent one extra, but it was cracked, then I candled them to make sure there were no rotten ones. I did find one though. I threw it out though. It smelled VERY bad! Then I was looking at the eggs and found out that two were chicken eggs! So I still put them in the bator, I dont want chickens but my brother does so he can have them when/if they hatch. So now im up to 3 khaki campbell duck eggs, and two what I think are leghorn chicken eggs. So by the end of next month if they all hatch I will have 6 25 week old ducks 6 3 week old ducks and a 3 newly hatched ducklings! I am crossing my fingers to everyone who is hatching there eggs and if you can keep yours crossed for me! Thanks

The power is back!!!

The 3 eggs I did a quick candle on look great. All 3 showed chicks moving around

It came back fast for us, usually we are the last to get power back. Big sigh of relief. I will do a full candle tomorrow night and hopefully all made it thru the last 2 days

Tomorrow is my first complete candling

I know I have life already, I will just know tomorrow how many.

Questions:
1: Do you lose most of your eggs the first candling? or when?

2: Do you toss all that look iffy?

3: What if the contents are too dark to see what is going on?

4: Should I just take pics and let you tell me about the iffy ones?

I leave all eggs until day 14 candle that way I know for sure!

I toss any that are clear of obvious quitter’s

When they are that dark I leave them and do a smell test every few days

I did a full candle as I could not wait untill tomorrow and 9/16 still show great signs of movement and veins!

Having no power for the last few days seems to have done no damage! I will candle again on day 14 (wed) and toss all that are bad
