Not too many folks are aware of just how friendly the leghorn is!! I always need a legorn in my back yard. They come running when my back door opens .. ok.. so it's for treats more than for me...maybe. ;). This girl would always try and sneak into our house....or, if I sit, most come and get onto my lap.

Feel free to ask questions, there are so many wonderful and knowledgeable people who will answer them!

I recommend Silver/Golden Laced Wyandottes, they are so hardy in both winter and summer, great egg-layers as well. I have two and both are nine years old and never been sick. 10/10 those birds. Easter Eggers are also fun and hardy, but they aren't great in the heat, so I don't recommend them if your summers are above 90*Fs most days.

Welcome to BYC! I think it is a good idea to get your sister involved in raising chickens. My best advice it to make sure you have everything set up before you buy the actual birds. A draft free and predator proof coop is the number is the most important thing, and there should be ventilation holes near the ceiling to allow moisture to escape. A predator proof run is also very important. I hope you will find BYC helpful with this new project, and I hope you will ask questions in the forums when you need help.
