Seven of my hens have laid their first eggs in the span of two days!! I posted my first egg pic yesterday in the first egg thread.

This morning at about 10:30 I found these (the one on the right is yesterday's):

Then this afternoon at 5 PM, I went out and found FOUR more, including this neat speckled brown one which was just laying by the waterer:

I'll be checking one more time before sunset. Most of my brown sex-links are spending a lot of time in the nest boxes...they and my 3 white leghorns are the oldest. I am SO excited!!!

So how about it, have any of you had your hens start laying within days of one another? And has anyone seen a speckled egg like this out of a plain old feed-store sex link bird?? Or is it possible one of my EE's laid it?? The EE's are only 16 weeks, the red & whites are 18 weeks. Either way I really hope that speckling is going to be permanent and isn't just a first-egg fluke, it's really interesting looking!!

Well, I'm off to make myself an omelet

2 weeks ago two started laying out of 16. A few days later 3, then 5, then 7, and now 9 are laying. All the same exact age, but 4 different breeds, 16 birds total. Tomorrow I will try to figure out who is laying and who isn't.

My Red Sexlink sometimes lays brown and white speckled eggs like that. Hers aren't quite as dramatic though.
Fortunately it doesn't seem to indicate any real problmems, just a wonk in the system. On the other hand, they aren't "regular" from her, so I would expect your bird to start laying more solid brown eggs as her system matures.

Many of my hens lay speckled eggs. I love them! Run it under some tap water and see if the speckles change color. Mine change to a deep, dark brown.

That's awesome! First eggs are so much fun!!!! I have some standard pullets that are about 5 weeks old right now and I can't wait for them to start laying! I ordered some cali whites, orloffs, BR's, EE's, sex links, and welsummers so I am hoping maybe around Thanksgiving I might start getting a rainbow of green, blue, white, brown, and dark brown eggs! I can hardly wait! That speckled egg is gorgeous! Congratulations!!!!!
