Hi there can you help me out please. I have been treating my hen for Bumblefoot for almost 2 weeks now with worsening. Soaks daily with epsom, vetercin spray, neosporin wraps. Mo kernel came out with scab removal. I want to treat her with antibiotic. I have purchased Tylan 50 & Oxytetracycline 100. Will one of these work? If so how where & how much do I inject? I will send foot pics tonight when I bring Her in to soak and fresh wrapping. She walks & eats drinks just fine. Her opposing foot she has had issues since from hatchery curled sideways toes & a twisted leg. But she gets on just fine with the rest of them.

Could you post a photo of the bumblefoot?

Unfortunately, an oral antibiotic is nearly useless on bumblefoot. Since staph bacteria is usually the cause, it responds better to direct application of antibiotics rather than systemic treatment.

Severe bumblefoot can require months sometimes to see improvement. And sometimes, it will remain chronic for much longer than that.

So injections don’t work?

I can't tell you definitively that they won't, just that bumblefoot bacteria is so localized, it's resistant.

The Tylan probably won't work on staph at all. It's mostly a respiratory disease med, and works very well for that purpose. If you do use it for that purpose, it's best not to inject it. It's very caustic and can cause tissue damage. It's most often given orally.

The other antibiotic has more chance of making a difference in the infection. That's the one I would try if all else has failed.

The spot on the top of her foot is my attempt to relieve some of the pressure. I know this is getting worse so I need to know how location & how much to give her of the med I have to give her. I have am doing her nightly care right this moment so any quick responses would be great!

Thank you for the quick response. Can you help guide me how I would give it? How much & where to inject it & how often?
