I have a 9 month old Buff Brahma who I noticed had a back "thumb" toe that was the size of my real thumb. I put her in the tub and let her soak a bit and looked at her foot again. It had a clump of what looked like dirt so I pulled it away which revealed a lot of puss and thick gooy stuff. I pressed and squeezed at it for a while until it seemed all gone and started bleeding a bit. I resoaked her foot, squeezed again, got more thick goopy stuff out and wrapped her foot in gauze with lots of neo. I took the time to check the other foot and it has a very tiny little scab that I guess would be bumble foot in the center of her pad.

WHAT DO I DO? The bad back toe is right around the nail and maybe got an infection under the nail. I am really worried about her, she is my favorite baby girl. As far as meds on hand I have Sulmet. I have never done surgery and am very scared to hurt her. She squirmed a lot when I was getting the scab thing off her toe and getting the puss out.

We both thank you in advance

Can someone please help with this. I had her toe wrapped all day with neo and when I took it off there were nasty puss spots all over her toe. I lanced them open and am not using vetracin spray on it. I think it is getting worse.

I would soak it again and remove any puss or clumps of dried stuff. It would probably heal better if you then left it open to the air.

In my experience I use Blu-cote on poultry wounds and keep close watch on them for further infection. This is great stuff and dries up the wounds and big plus it keeps the flies off and prevents them from laying eggs and getting the nasty maggots in warm weather.

If she were mine I would soak daily, clean away and gunk and spray with Blu-cote. You should see improvement in just a few days. It is amazing how quickly they can heal from even horrible wounds. Good luck!

I agree with the blue kote. Actually, I've had better luck with Wonder Dust, I think its a better drying agent. When you soak it, try some chlorhexidine or betadine in the water, just a little. I would say a couple of drops in 2 cups of water. Keep it open unless you see her picking at it.
