I'm super frazzled and extremely upset and because it's a Sunday these babies can't get to a vet right now. This morning I met with a breeder to purchase six pilgrim goslings, 4 (1MO) and 2 (2W)...before he even opened the box I could smell the rot coming off of them. They were absolutely caked with filth and so without hesitation, I grabbed them all up and hauled butt to get home. They went right into the bathtub that had to be drained twice and while drying them off, I finally got to see their feet and I am horrified at the state of them.

Here's my plan of action -- if there's anything you can think of that I'm missing please let me know. I also already contacted the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue for guidance on how to report this man and hopefully save any future animals from him.

Organic Duckling Starter w/ Kelp & Nutritional Yeast mixed in (waiting on a Mazuri order to arrive)
Rooster Booster in their water today and then Durastat Oregano
Snacks - Kale & Peas with liquid B12
Epsom Salt Soaks with calendula salve on their feet, I don't even know if it's safe to do a bumblefoot treatment on babies??

I am horrified at their condition. You did very well reporting the seller. Poor babies.
I think you are doing well with your plan. Nothing seems to be missing. Since they donot look feathered, better to keep them warm and take them to a vet for overall check up to look for internal parasites and so on.

My guess is the vet might prescribe some antibiotics for their water and maybe some corid, considering how badly they were neglected I would guess they probably have internal parasites too.

Poor things, it sounds like you’re doing everything that can be done for now, they’re in good hands finally.

That bastard shouldn’t be allowed near animals again, unfortunatly however birds aren’t really protected under animal rights laws, under most laws it seems that birds are considered property and not living beings like mammals. I think it’s so mass farming can continue without interruptions.
It’s the sad reason situations like these go unpunished for birds but especially those that are considered poultry, not that exotics are necesarily treated better, I know someone on insta that’s assisting three parrot rescues, parrots that were severely abused and neglected by a man who claimed he was operating a parrot rescue himself. They’ve been trying to save the birds for decades but nothing’s come of it because he technically wasn’t breaking the law, only now that he’s in hospice are the survivors finally free from hell.

I have to add because the baby furthest to the front has swollen hocks, that could be from mycoplasma or staph. 😔 The skin condition could also be staph.

I’m praying these sweet babies can beat this and live the long happy lives they deserve.

So glad you rescued these guys. Just wanted to point it out, you may want to worm them/get a fecal test done on them when you go to the vet. With the awful conditions they were in it's likely they may also have parasites.

Best of luck to you & them, please keep us updated! ♥️

Morning update! All six made it through the night and their poops, while not great are no longer trending on the terracotta color side of things. They've been eating like crazy, drinking tons of water, and energy levels are still high.

I called my vet this morning and she's unable to see me for two weeks 😩 so I'm going to keep calling around and hopefully I can find someone.

In the meantime, I went out and bought some corid and will look up some natural worming treatments that I can manage until then. Parts of their feet are already looking better, which is incredible, but I do think I need to do a bumble treatment on all of them. It looks like he cut off their back left toe (?!?!?!?!) and the digit is very swollen. The swelling in their joints has gone down and I put them in an oatmeal bath this morning to try and help with the skin irritation.

The one I'm most worried about is the 1MO female, her feet almost appear bruised in the webbing, she's much smaller than the boys and she can't fully stand up, she appears to be crouched when walking.

I reached out to animal control via email so I could attach some pictures, the CWR said that was basically my only option, so we'll see what happens there.

I went back onto his website and he's listed that he put more eggs into the incubator 😢 idk if I should post to local homesteading groups to avoid him or email him back letting him know he needs to fix his practices, just feeling conflicted because what I really want to do is throw him over a bridge.

Thank you all so much for your kind and loving words of support, I'll keep updates going on the little ones and hopefully by summer we'll have beautifully feathered out geese running around 🧡🧡🧡

I would post to groups, let as many people know as you can, he needs to be shut down and the last thing he should be doing is hatching more eggs!

Also why would he cut off the back toe? Does he think they grow spurs like roosters? Does he know anything about geese or any birds? This is horrifying.
