how contagious is this ?? and is there a better or best bedding i can keep him on ?? poor boy .. i feel sooo sorry for him .. hes so kewl looking .. ill post a pic of him (all of him ) tomorrow .. thanks for the advice so far keep it coming ..

I was actually hoping you would get some responses :( I can tell you what I've read...

You smear the legs with vaseline or bag balm. Really thick. Keep repeating until they are better. I've also read, but can't find it again, that you can use ivermectin pour on...a couple drops on the back of the neck and that will help. I can't find the thread for that. I have a young roo, I've been trying to treat and was hoping this thread would give me some more suggestions. I haven't tried the pour on since I can't find the thread but I think I will use it tomorrow anyway. The bag balm just isn't getting the job done!!

i hope for a bunch of suggestions for both of us .. lol sorry your roo has this too .. is it as bad as my boys?

bluekote come out purple, and redkote comes out red. I use bluekote in the pass but now I just use redkote because it has scarlet oil in it to heal the bad looking leg. the oil will get into place where you cant get to clean it. vaseline is good too, but cant reach deep inside the scale.

No, not as bad, but I've been battling it since last fall. He is the only one to have it so I'm thinking that it isn't highly contagious. I'm going to head out for some red kote!!! It's gotta be better than the slimy bag balm!!

looks like im headed to dickey bub in the morning for the poor fellow ... see if i cant find something for him =/

why head out, check your car garage for some wd40 rust spray. that works to. but I do perfer the redkote.

I found some chickens with horrible scaly leg mite. I treated them with vegetable oil. It doesn't matter what kind of oil...any kind will smother the mites. On the worst ones I also use ivomec pour on. Here is a pic of what one of them looked like after a few days of oiling.[

I included the head shot too as she had some on her head as well. I spent a couple weeks of oiling and massaging the feet to get the crust off. Eventually, as you see, their toes will die and fall off. The feet get stiff and they can't scratch as well so the nails get too long. eventually, left untreated, the leg will rot off. No need to get anything special. YOu can use the vegetable oil in the kitchen.

Thats right. even car oil will do the job. It just has to soak in really good to kill the leg mite that are in to deep.
