this exact thing, I'm sorry, but if I was you right now I'd cull him immediately

(what I didn't do) the infection traveled to about 10 or 15 birds of my birds, and we found something for pigs and cows that we heard from a wise old man

would treat it
you have to give ALL adult birds no matter what size 1cc of Bio-Mycin 200 and babies 1/2 a cc BUT it only works in very early cases!
we never actually learned what the disease was but thankfully we've not had any new cases in 4 months

there was another that looked just like your roo too if you REALLY don't want to cull him, quarantine him as far away as possible from the other birds and wash your hands very well before going to your other birds, also if you have one case you'll probably get another -Jake

I just lost a silkie hen to some sickness...everyone says it sounds like coryza, but she didn't have any swelling, and no foul odor. Is there a good antibiotic to use that covers most infectious diseases? Can a chicken have coryza and not have the facial swelling?

Most respiratory illnesses will respond to Tylan or Gallimycin, however, you should remember that they really dont cure many of these. They just prevent secondary bacterial infections while the immunity is down. Even if a bird recovers, or seems to, it can still be a carrier and infect other birds, especially during times of stress. There are many, myself included, who have a policy of not treating respiratory illness at all. We wish to breed birds with strong immune systems, not an overall weak flock.

at LAH International I found AviPro 101 Coryza. They said you give an injection at 4-6 weeks and then again right before they start to lay. They sell it in 1,000 doses for $20. I wanted to read just a little bit more before purchasing it. For example can I give it to my older birds. Out of my 12 grown chickens I don't know which one is the carrier, but I can't cull all 12

I forgot to say that when mine got sick from it - I only had 1 of the 12 that was really bad. Then about 3 of the 12 got the sniffles. I nursed the RIR back to health with warm oatmeal and applesauce through a syringe. I fed her oxytetracycline water with the syringe too. After about 5 days she was eating on her own again. Then oxytetracycline water for the entire flock for 14 days.

11/15 I got 4 new chickens that I added to the coop, in their own area. All 4 got sick after about 3 weeks and I lost 3 of them in 1-week. It was heart-breaking (a Barnvelder and 2 Sussex) The 4th one is recovering. I didn't realize that the new ones would get it until I found out one of my 12 must be a carrier.

I have six 5-week old chicks in the house maturing and I thought the AviPro 101 Coryza vaccine would prevent them from contracting it.

I've learned many things the hard way this past 6 months of being a chicken-momma!! Loving it though!!
