My brother in law hit a young snow goose and broke her leg. She has compound fracture above the knee on her left leg an abrasion on her left foot and her left wing. I took and splint the break. She's sweet and docile, just like my chickens. I'm inclined to think she was farm raised because she nuzzling me and letting me pet her. I'm afraid however that her injuries are beyond recovery.

Anyone have any insight on caring for such a bird and such an injury? I've set broken bones in chickens and turkeys but I'm in New territory with geese.

She's in the brooder I use for my wounded or sick chickens. She's drinking but I haven't a clue what to feed her or how to care for her. I have a heat lamp on her and she's moved herself under it.

I set the break as best I could so its tight and won't move. I doubt it will heal straight but at least it's not flopping all over the place. She did make it through the night though and she's eliminated "normal" stool so I'm hoping that's a good sign there are no internal injuries. I did some research and will try to feed her some lettuce and other greens. I have some frozen trout in the freezer too. Here's to hoping that she'll be able to walk again.

Continue offering greens. I would offer some whole grains (it's very likely what she has been eating) then add a Mazuri waterfowl, gamebird grower, or chicken grower + niacin. I think that you have done and are doing all of the right things.
