Sevin dust for mites?

i use DE in all our coops and one of them got a severe mite infection anyways. Probably due to wild birds and having the pen top only covered in deer netting. DE will not knock down a mite infection. i used Adams flea and tick spray on the nest boxes and Poultry Dust with permethrin inside and nest boxes and in the coop under the bedding. Then sprayed the birds with a mite and lice spray and gave them spot-on ivermectin.

Still need to thoroughly treat the coop, but what i have done so far has gotten it down to just a few stray mites. Those things are nasty! It went from no apparent mites to a full-blown infestation in no time.

I just lost 3 youngsters to mites that were in a coop with huge amounts of DE spread liberally everywhere on the flooring two weeks prior and still quite thick.

Yesterday I bathed 30 youngsters in flea/tick shampoo; today I'll bathe at least half that amount. Most of them had mites. I will be thoroughly spraying the coop with sevin before putting any youngsters back in. I may get a longer acting spray to use instead. I know Adams makes one.

Gardeners dislike sevin because it kills bees.

It's really bad for the water table as well, which effects ALL of us.

Here is info on the main chemical in Sevin Dust: http://www.pesticideinfo.org/Detail_Chemical.jsp?Rec_Id=PC32816

I
would really like to see a movement away from these toxins...they are much more dangerous than people realize.

Go to the turkey forum and look at the Turkeys in "please help"post.
If the gray on the wings is Sevin dust, even people who use it and like it have to admit that it is a very heavy application and could be harming the Turkeys.
Sevin is toxic if breathed. There can be no arguement about that. Any insecticide can be harmful if not used properly.

I use Sevin in my chicken yard periodically. Make sure you only use the 5% and don't put it directly on the chicken or the nest boxes. Put in the wallows in the yard and they will get enough when they bathe to treat themselves.

Thanks Fowl Visions, that makes me feel much better!
