If i hatch sex link eggs. will i be able to sex the chicks or does it not work for the 2nd generation sex link chicks

Good question--I see this asked often.

Sex link sortation is good only on one generation.

Rhode Island Red rooster carries 2 red genes, one to girl offspring and one to boy offspring. He is mated to a silver hen, like a Silver laced wyandott. She provide one silver gene. The silver gene masks the red gene. So . . . .

THe girl chicks are a different color than the boy chicks at hatch. You cannot use these chicks to breed the next generation of sexlinks. Yes you can breed them but there is no color sorting by gender.

THis is a very detailed thread if you want the full story. I have reread it about 10 times to fully understand the detail.

If you are talking about sex-links like the red or black variety, then no the second generation is not sex-linked. Now there are breeds that breed true as sex-liks like the Legbars and a few other rare breeds.
