If the RIR is true, yes. I was looking at pictures from my breeding project to see if I had any chicks with comparable markings, whose adult plumage I also knew - but the answer is no.

My barred chicks have consistently had a white spot on the head, and I'm not seeing that on yours. But my chicks that remained solid black as they grew into their adult selves didn't have anything like the variation of greys in your photo.

Example:

/edit admittedly, mine aren't sex links - I had a barred cockerel of mixed background ("RUG" Rooster of Unknown Genetics), while the mamas were hybrids, D Brahma, or SLWs. These are all mutts.

My chick is almost 3 weeks. The rir roo was pure as far as I know. This chick has a single comb. I'm wondering if it's maybe my grey hens chick. Possible dames are..
