Since my rooster is a black australorp/ rir cross if I crossed it with my light sussex or barred rock hen could I get a sex link? The reason for asking is because I had two chicks hatch out, and one has a white dot on the top of its for head while the other doesn't. Although the other chick has a red/ auburn color around its head.

You can use him to make sex links with your barred Rock hen, yes. Males will have that white head spot, females will have a solid dark head. Males will feather out barred like momma, females will look pretty much like the father in color.

No sex linkage with the Sussex, sorry.

Hi, one of my broodies just hatched a clutch of 8 White Silkie roo over MF D'Uccle. There are 4 silver chicks and 4 gold. does this mean SL and if so which is which? thanks!

Also a second broody hatched NH over Siver Grey Dorking and I got red chicks and yellow chicks. The reds are the girls correct?

Can't help you on the Dorking cross, sorry, I don't know enough about their genetic type to say.

I can tell you per nicalandia's posts, the silkie crosses are sex linked. Not by down color, but by leg color. The black skinned birds are female, and the yellow skinned birds are male.

look for the Black skinned ones, those are your females, the white skinned ones are males

Thanks...I so appreciate your help. I went straight out and grabbed up a couple of chicks to check. Only thing is the gold and silver both seem to have equally dark grey legs and feet. I didn't look at each chick, just at one of each but I couldn't tell the difference.

So here are pics of the parents and one of two of the chicks and their broody mama. Any thoughts?? Thanks in advance.

These came from my aunt's pen. She has no other bantams they are confined together in the same pen and she is worried about hawks so these guys don't range so I know the only matings were this guy with these girls.

In other news check out the SLs I got from my NH roo over my Siver Grey Dorking hens and the same roo over my California Grey Hen

Black sex links in front and with the white face from CA Grey Red girl ( I am assuming) in the back is has a Dorking mom


Yellow Dorking X in the front...that's a boy

The CA Grey NH RSL boys are grey with a head spot and the girls are almost blue and red...so pretty!

dont just look at their shanks, take an actual look at the skin, if its black, then its a female, if its white/yellow, then its a male.
