Sex- linked Information

I know this is a sex link site but there is some very informed people on genetics. So thought I would ask. I read somewhere that a Delaware is a mix between a New Hampshire red and a barred Plymouth Rock. Would it be possible to possible to produce a Delaware with a white Plymouth if the barred gene is present in the WPR? I know the barred gene is present in the roo chicks. The eggs in my second incubator started hatching and I had four of them that resembled the pics of some Delaware chicks.

You are correct. A Delaware is a cross of a Barred Plymouth Rock rooster on New Hampshire hens. There are some breeders who enhance their Delaware line by breeding either a NHR or a RIR male with their Delaware females. All chicks with this parent stock will look like the Delaware females.

While both breeds are foundation breeds for the Del It is not a simple cross. byc user kathyinmo recreated them. She has worked on the project for years. Not sure the status at the moment but she has recreated Delawares like the were supposed to be.

An NHR or RIR rooster over Delware hens will give red sex links, roosters will appear similar to Delaware with a yelowish cast, hens will be red and lose the barring in the hackles.
A Delaware rooster over RIR or NHR hens will produce hens with something more like the Delaware coloring and marking, but the roosters will again be yellowish, carrying one copy of s+

So I've heard about sexing e+ pattern chicks(the true chimpunk chicks out of light browns, black breasted reds, true crele) by head and eye stripe. It's not on the first post of this thread. Are there pictures clearly showing the differences?

Look up Welsummers, they are the most well known e+ chick down breed that can be sexed as chicks. It works, mostly, if your strain is known for that. I have been getting an absurdly high proportion of "female" Welsummer chicks that makes me wonder if they are not as sexable as I thought. I hope I'm just very, very lucky.

I had that backwards.

Delaware males may be mated to New Hampshire or Rhode Island Red females and produce chicks of the Delaware color pattern. Delaware females mated to New Hampshire or Rhode Island Red males produced sex-linked offspring; the males having the Delaware color pattern and the females having the solid red color of the sires. Chicks from this second cross can even be sexed by their down color when hatched.
