Sex- linked Information

Yes it would be a sex-linkable cross if you use a big red roo ie.(RIR,NH, or anything considered gold based) as the hen in ? is silver. based

thanks. I just did not know if the blue coloring made much of a difference. I am no expert on chicken genes.

Would a RIR rooster over SLW hen produce sexlink offspring? I hatched two, one is black with red lacing and one is black with silver lacing. The silver lacing one looks Rooish to me, bigger feat, legs, head and comb.

If they are pure, yes RIR roo over SLW hen it should produce a red sex link. The down on a male chick should be more yellow and the down on a female chick should be more reddish. I have not done that cross, and sometimes the difference in the reddish or yellow is not that pronounced, but I'd think in that case it would be pretty clear.

I'm also not sure what the adult plumage would look like exactly, but yes the female should show red. The male may look pretty white but he could (probably should) have some yellowish/gold or maybe rusty looking feathers, especially around the saddle and hackles. But he probably would show some pretty white in other areas. The final actual pattern is what I am most unsure about.

Ridgerunner is correct on them being a sex-linkable cross as thw male breeder is gold and the female is silver and you are on the right track on the rooster showing the white and the pullet showing red as the pullet inherits the gold from the sire and the cockerel inherits the silver from the dam. Just as simple as that

I 'm looking to make sexlinks by crossing RIR x PRoduction Black leghorns. I'm concerned aabout the temperatment on this bird--attacks and flighty!

Our current Production hens peck our hens while pulling eggs out from under them; the other girls are very tolerant.

ANy thoughts on where to get kind, gentle RIR rooster stock?

May need to ditch this combo and rethink.

PS. Thanks TIm for answering all my PM's !

Second question>

I read in an earlier post that BCM x barred hen will work.

AM I correct to assume BCM x SLW will produce gold/silver sexlinks? Or is the BCM not suitable with the SLW but needs a hen from Group 1 ?

Thanks.

Jenlyn, do you have any pictures you can share? I'd love to see these 2 as chicks and their current colors.
Thanks.

I hopefully will have time when i get home. I dont have access at work. They look just like wyndotts cept more stout and breasty. They have the comb of wyndotte. They basically are black with gold or silver lacing. The lacing is just sparse across the back and wings not near what a quaility wyndott has. I got these eggs from silkielover he said they were RIR over SLW., When they were born the golden one had a lot of color like a pure wyndott cept more red less white and the male just had a few white lines around eyes and back.
