Sex- linked Information

Read the very first post in this string.

hi, I tried to read the first post but am having a hard time understanding. I have a blue laced red Wyandotte rooster. It looks like he can be used for a red sex link. I don't quite get what type of hen I should use though. can someone give me some suggestions?

I have a brahma that is black and silver. could I use her?
I've read that 1st post a zillion times!! When you jump into he breeding m you will understand it better.

rooster is red based and can be used with a silver or a barred if she is homozygous for black.

I don't know enough to say if your hen will work. In theory yes. Red x silver = red sexlink.

Greetings!
I have heard that a Wyandotte Rock cross yields good laying hens and cockrells with good meat qualities. Any information you can offer on this is appreciated. My true question, however, regards the sex-linked offspring. According to the Sex-Linked information thread the chicks will be a "black back phenotype (See Illustration 3) with the gold or silver being expressed on the face and fore head of the chick." What will the adult color of a Partridge Rock rooster with Columbian Wyandotte hens be?
Thank you for your time!

Just hatched 3 chicks (out of 4 eggs- waiting for last one) - broody mamma keeping them under wraps.

Daddy = Rhode Island Red

2 eggs = americana's (one golden/white and one like a sunburst gold/browns/greys)

1 egg = barred rock

1 egg = black copper marrans

What will I get? Any sex links? So far the 3 chicks are 2 black and one gold with marks on head

one solid black, one black has white on chest (not on head), the gold I suspect to be americana. I hope I get more girls. I already have to fight the roo on a daily basis. ugh - may rehome him - hubby doesn't want to process....

I'm pretty sure the RIR(roo) x Barred Rock(hen) will be a Black Sex Link. Chick will be barred if male, black with red accents if female. Might not see those traits for a couple weeks, though.

I agree with Laura-- only the RIR x BR will give you sexlinks. WHat is the head looking like? White spot or black?

THe EE x RIR will be a pretty colored egg though: lt to med olive green.

THe black copper will lay a dark egg though not as dark as the pure marans. Still fun though.

kinda what I thought. The 2 black chicks have solid black heads - one has a little white below the throat area and the other is solid (as far as I can tell) Mamma is very protective. Will have to see which is which. I suspect the white spot to be the rock and the solid to be the marans and the gold to be americana and she still has a blue/green egg. such fun. please be girls when they grow up. lol

Ok so I have a pure bred heritage Delaware rooster over Plymouth White rock hens and a hen just hatched 6 chicks 4 are pure white and two are white with black skunk lines on the back. Sexlinked?
