Ok I re read it and your right. It would have to be my barred hens. And it says that the silver laced wyandotte isn't the best choice cause it might have barring in it. But I'll still give it a try.
Thanks!!

Do you know if missing toenails is genetic? My Delaware hen is missing two toenails in her middle toe on both feet. This trait passed down to 25% of her kids. Or it was just a coincidence.
seems genetic

Quote: Sorry I didn't mean you would want to use crosses; my point was I prooved it WAS genetic in my sheep by using a very unrelated sire. Some issues we can live with, some we cannot; in the case of the sheep it resulted in the loss of the lamb within weeks or even days of birth--big financial loss there. If you want to breed out the nail issue, either breed a lot and hold only those with good nails and consider finding other stock to breed back in and then select again. Long process. BUt we have time right? lol

Quote: THank you for clarifying this 00 I felt a moment of panic. My SLW girls don't show barring; seems to me all birds with even 1 barring gene shows the effects.

My bad... I again re read the original first page and its saying that white Plymouth rock could be carrying barring... Sorry for the confusion.

LOL, there is always someone here to help us get it right! Now you have learned it correctly. :)
Yea... Reading to fast and typing before I know what I'm talking about... oops! I need a red faced embarrassed smiley face!!
