Sex- linked Information

Thank you I will do that when I get home...That was silly wasn't it...I know there are birds with black shanks whose skin is not black. Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks...I so appreciate your help. I went straight out and grabbed up a couple of chicks to check. Only thing is the gold and silver both seem to have equally dark grey legs and feet. I didn't look at each chick, just at one of each but I couldn't tell the difference.

dont just look at their shanks, take an actual look at the skin, if its black, then its a female, if its white/yellow, then its a male.

Here are our Sex Links:

3 Weeks old - Goldie is our golden sex link and we hope she is a she!

1 1/2 Weeks old - And here is Attitude (my husband named her that) our black sex link, again hope she is a she:

What were the breeds used in the cross? Does Attitude have a head spot?

to make the red star.

to make Redsexlinks, I believe to make a proper "RedStar" they use RIR and Rhode Island White, because you see white tails in them with some white feathers on hackle, and Delawares dont have dominant white or any kind of white in them, the white you see in them is actually Silver, and the hens in question(RedStars) are Gold in nature

OK if the cross is as you say the red chick is a pullet. Red Sex Link boys are yellow at hatch. Red sex link girls are red. If the Black chick is solid black it is a pullet. If it has a head spot it is a cockerel.

Both are very cute!

I had no idea that I was making black sex-links when I crossed my Pita Pinta cockerel with my Cream Legbar girls. When I hatched their eggs, I was hoping for green egg layers. I kept having chicks start to get barring. I have one Barred Rock hen and I thought that I must be accidentally hatching her eggs along with my pure Pita Pinta eggs. That thought worked when I only had one barred chick in a hatch but when I purposely hatched a bunch of blue eggs and ended up with several barred chicks, I knew something was up! Now I have a bunch of barred boys running around. They are living the good life until they get old enough for freezer camp.
