Sex- linked Information

Which is the best cockerel to use on light sussex hen for sex linking

Go to the first page. It tells you ( if you'd just read the article) that the best cross would be one if the roosters from group 1.

Only you can decode which cross you want to make.

Before you do anything please go back to the first page and read the entire article. Imprinted it off for easier reading.

So we juat hatched a clutch, and got a little baby who is wild-type (chipmunk), but the stripe down the back and other markings are almost obscured by the the baby's intense mahogany color. If you look closely you can see the markings. From what it says above, that would make the babe a female, is that right? My phone wont let me post pictures to the forum (bummer). Not sure the breed of the chick, possibly a barnyard mutt, or a clean faced EE.

Color means absolutely nothing if you don't know the parentage of the chick, them it has to follow certain parameters. The father has to be pure for gold, the hen has to have silver for a red sex link. it's possible to get a sex linked chick form barnyard mutts or EE's, bot of which are typically crosses, but you really need to know the parents.

I have hatched quite a few chicks of various breeds that have the chipmunk markings. If you get all females you are lucky. Those markings are only in the down feathers and many breeds of chicks can have them. When the chicks loose their down and their true feathers come in you won't even be able to tell who had the markings and who didn't. If you look closely at these pictures you can probably pick out some chicks that have some markings on them. Somewhere I have some better pictures. I will try to find them.

True. My barn yard mutts are from a GLW roo, my hens who are of laying age are GLW, BR, and gold sexlinks. We know it's not the BR,am I right in assuming it couldn't be from a GLW hen? They are chipmunk as babies, but shouldn't be this outrageous color. It honestly looks like someone dyed the little thing. Ha ha ha And if it were a gold sexlink mother, there would be no sexlink gene in its offspring.

The other eggs I put under my hen were austrolorp, and EE I ordered online. So I guess my assumption is that this babe is a clean faced EE. That doesn't tell us anything about the color of the parents, though. So I guess I'll wait and see. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the welcome!! I have several breeds that were chipmunk babies. I've been chickening for awhile now, this is just my first time hatching. We had a hen go broody, so I thought, why not? It's been fun.

Hello!
Just found out today that I have a Black Copper Marans rooster ( was told it would be a hen, it is crowing now, there is no doubt we have a sir!), I also have a Crested Cream leg bar. If I mate my Marans rooster with my leg bar hen, will i get sexlinked chicks?? I know that CCL are auto sexing, but wondering if I can get some olive eggers that I can sex at hatch.... (totally new to this, but looking towards future!)
Thanks!!
