Sex- linked Information

Does anybody know if a BCM roo can be a black sexlink daddy?

I have a RIR roo covering my barred girls right now, but the BCMs lay such nice big eggs..... Was wondering if I could get sexlinks with the BCM daddy?

Yes the combo will be sex-linkable according to the charts on the first page look at the chart for BSL any color over a barred female would produce a sex link chick it doesnt show BCMs but does have Partridge and Wellsummer basicly all three are considered Brown/reds in color is my deduction there

PM tim/tadkerson, he'll respond with alot more info than I got in my pea brain.

I have a Barred Rock rooster and Australorp hens -- 4 chicks hatched. What do you call this breed besides "Heinz 57?" How about BR rooster and Ameraucana?

Thanks.

Yes the barred rock hens would work to make the black Sexlinks. I'm not sure out the Auburn, but it looks gold so it should be gold gened and if so then yes the SLWs would work too.

They wouldnt be breeds, just hybrids and they wouldnt be sexlinks with the Barred Rock being the rooster. That would just be mixed barred birds. No real name for the cross.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll call them Barredalorps? Rockacaunas? I guess most importantly for me is will they be good egg layers???

i read at the begining of this thread that sexlinks cant produce sexlinked offspring but i had a black sexlink hen and crossed here with a New Hampshire rooster and took the rooster from that cross and crossed him with a Barred Rock and i got Black Sexlinks.

Yes that would work but what was meant buy that is that you cant cross a Black Sexlink with a Black Sexlink and get Sexlinks, And you cant cross a Red Sexlink with a Red Sexlink and get Red Sexlinks.

And technially, it wasnt your black Sexlink that produced the Sexlinks. It was her non barred son on Barred hens.

The only acutal sexlink bird that could be used in a Sexlink cross would be a Red Sexlink roo on Barred Rock hens and this would make Black Sexlinks. BUT if the Red Sexlink roo was the kind carrying dominant white ( his sisters are White tailed red) then when breed with the Barred Rock hens, about half of the offspring would be White and wouldnt be able to sex as day olds, but under that dom white, they would still technically be Black Sexlinks.

I have some very nice Silver Laces Wyandotte hens that I play to put a beautiful heritage Rhode Island Red Rooster over. I think they should makes beautiful sex link little chicks, right?
