thanks!!!
it looks like there are alot of knowledgeable people on here and it is great to have this as a resource.
I was just hoping to get an idea of what to expect...didnt want to do anything that might end up strange but I guess that is the chance you take.
appreciate you responding and the welcome.

Cindy, I’m not one of those experts on genetics but maybe I can help a little bit. First and foremost, I don’t know anything wrong with mixes unless you plan to show the chickens. I actually like mixes. You can get some really interesting colors and patterns, many that you would not expect.

Your Golden Comets are mixes to start with. I don’t know which breeds actually went into them as there are several options, but with that rooster you should get red chicks. They might have either blue or black pattern colors. Could be interesting.

With your Silver Laced Wyandottes and the Columbian Wyandotte, you should get red sex linked chicks. The females will have red down and the males will have yellow down when hatched. I’d expect the adult males will be white or off-white and the adult females to be red.

One neat thing with the rooster being Blue is that about half the chicks should have black pattern colors and the other half should have blue pattern colors. I think you will get some really interesting chicks.

Hey
sorry not to get back sooner but thanks so much for the insight. I really appreciate it.
He is a lovely rooster and I recently lost my BLRW hen so he is having his way with the other girls and I have become somewhat chicken crazy (thank goodness for a patient husband) so I wanted to start hatching a bit. Now I do have a hen that has gone broody but I cannot seem to get her to switch from sitting in her slot in the coop to an alternate location which is much cooler and larger than the nesting box in the coop so I dont want to put any eggs under her till I get her settled if at all. Will start in the incubator and hope she gets with my program. again thanks.

I have a Blue silkie rooster over a barred rock. The chick hatched and its a male because its got a spot on the head. My question is will it be a blue barred or a black barred rooster?

My blues hatch blue which is really a gray; my blacks hatch black. What color is it's chick fluff?

Blue is a gene that modifies the black, a dilution gene, and makes it blue. Your blue silkie can have either blues or blacks..

I think its more black in color. I'll have to take a close look at it tomorrow.

hmm the picture is showing more blue then black.... I'll look again tomorrow.
This one was a complete surprise. As every egg that I have cracked open or tried to hatch was not fertile. I was picking up the egg to move with momma and her new chick and it peeped at me.

I fyou can't decide right now, feathers will start on the wings immediately. Look there. THe tricky thing it that some blues are VERY dark, almost black. Can be tricky.

I can see the white spot, as you mentioned a male, and I see some down that looks gray on the back near the tail. A blue?

Edited to add:
I just looked closely at my blue and black (AMeraucans/EE) and the blue is a gray color feathers and down.

My black is black feathering with gray undercoat.

I amend the guess to black, the head of that chick is black.
