Sex linked ?

At Tractor Supply they have there yearly chick sale. 50 cents each but no one seem to know what they are. There is a tank with sex linked chicks. Some are jet black and the other are solid yellow. They appear to be a couple weeks old. Might anyone have an idea of what kind they are? I am going to pick up a dozen today no matter what they are. Just can't help myself this time of year. John

Are they supposed to be pullets? Because in the red sex link the yellow yellow ones are the roosters and the pullets are reddish yellow. In the black sex link, the roosters have a white spot on their heads.

They said they where straight run. No reddish color at all. They did have a tank with reddish ones but the sign said Golden Comets. I thought that yellow was one sex and black another. I don't know why I thought that. I did notice some black ones with a yellow spot on there heads.

Golden comets are a red sex link. If they are red chicks they should be pullets

If they are sex links and yellow, they are roosters. Sound like someone already got the pullets.

If they are black with no white on their head, they are female black sex links. If that is all that is left, somebody else either got confused or wanted to raise them for meat. If I were going for meat, I'd choose the roosters.

Well here is what I picked out. There is an EE hiding behind the others. 6 total. I forgot what you folks said about the sex when I got there so I will just have to live with what I picked. Any suggestions on sex? I was told they where all sex links except the EE and they didn't know what it was. John

There is a quarter sized white spot on the black ones head.

I just noticed from my last trip to the barn, the one yellow one with the wing feathers has a lot of powder blue feathers starting. I don't know if it means anything besides I always wanted a blue roo. Any thoughts? I sure want to thank you folks for the help. John
