I know that to check the sex you hold them upside down and if the squabble around they are roosters. but how long do you hold them upside down? we have 50 in a brooder and i held 6 of them upside down and all of them squabbled for 3 to 4 seconds then stopped. How long do they typicaly squabble to tell if they are male or female??

This method is not accurate. I have heard of people whose chicks have died from using the various hanging methods. That is an Old Wives Tale - NOT true. The best way to know is either order them as sexed pullets/cockerels or wait until 6-8 weeks. By then you will know.
