My babies have finally reached the 5 week mark, and they’re fully feathered and gorgeous. I wanted to show them off, get your opinions on sex, and some help deciding on their names.
They were all labeled as pullets and I brought them home at a week old. They’ve been feathering up very nicely because I put their brooder in the coop and they’ve been venturing outside every day.
Firstly, EE named Pumpkin.
EE named Goblin. She is the easiest to photograph and she has the cutest poses. She successfully snatched a bug right out of the air just one time and ever since she has relentlessly tried to catch every bug that flies past and she dashes around like a madman. It’s adorable.
Last EE named Penguin. The name still suits her but she no longer looks like a grey penguin chick with her colorful feathers grown in.
The one that I almost know is a handsome cockerel, but want more opinions on, is Blue. The first few days after bringing him home he was dominating all the other chicks and he was the most confident to venture onto my lap before all the others. I named him Blue after my previous blue orpington rooster who I adored and who was super sweet and cuddly.
Next SS is Cricket. Who is hard to photograph, and looks very similar to Blue.
The last SS does not have an official name! I liked Pistachio, but it doesn’t quite feel right for her. Some other ideas I had but wasn’t sure about are: Broccoli, Hickory, Chai, Hazelnut, Toad, Blackbird, Wren, Bean, Mulberry, and Sparrow. I would appreciate any new ideas or preferences of mine. She’s a deep brown color that I think is a bit darker than usual for a SS which is handy to tell her apart.
Lastly, the two completely identical BOs. I named one of them Newt, and I can’t choose the other’s name. I can only tell who she is when she sits on my head. She does it as often as possible, and believe it or not, none of the others have ever stepped on my head except for her. As you can see in my PFP.
I wanted a name that correlates with her head-sitting personality but I couldn’t come up with a good one. Maybe Ed, short for Head. My other ideas were: Peanut, Waffle, Eggo, Pistachio, Toad, Swiss, Parsnip, Pishy (fishy with a p), and one that my brother came up with, StarFang.
Thanks everyone!
