Phil is 3 weeks old now, not quite quacking but trying to. Are there any distinct characteristics of ducks and drakes? Maybe head bobbing when they walk? He/she's pretty territorial when it comes to his/her pool and the dogs. He also keeps jumping out of his tub.

You really can't tell by body language... I was convinced that my duckling was a female, kept bobbing its head and doing other girly behaviors I had seen the mother doing. Looked just like her, too. Turned out to be a drake!

The voice is the best/earliest way to sex a duck. If it starts making raspy sounds, it's a boy. If it quacks, it's a girl.
