Back in the last week of March I bought 10 straight run silkies from my local Tractor Supply store. The girl working there helped me to pick what she guessed were hens. Two of them like to fight with each other occasionally as though they are establishing a pecking order. I have a feeling that they're roos. How old are silkie bantams typically when you can begin to tell that you might have roos? How can you tell?

i think a way to determine if they are females or roos is to check there little wings and if the rows are the same height its a roo. if it is uneven, its a girl. this only works when they are a couple days old though.

this does not work in all breeds, and it will only work for the first two days. Silkies are not one of those breeds that can be sexed this way.

Unfortunatly, silkies are somewhat hard to sex, You can try posting pictures once they are 8 weeks old, sometimes they are able to be seeen then.

oh really? thanks! im so stupid my self!!

My sister did the same thing except she only got three bantams. We have been on and off about if one is a roo or not. She is still not 100% sure what breed they are. she is on here under mamajojo.

I've raised a few lately. The best I've come up with is The Hens will eventuly lay an egg LOL They are hard to sex and the roo's are usually quiet
