Sexing Barred Rocks

Pics
Oh and mine has quite the personality. Very adventurous and sure of its self. I also have a blrw that I am fairly certain is a girl and she is afraid of her shadow and being alone. The br does not have any of those problems!!! Could be dominant hen traits or more like roo traits!!

What do you think about my almost 5 week old? The comb has a little pink but the color wash on the legs is darker and it seems more black than grey.

from what I've read the lack of white (very dominantly black chick you got there) would make me say pullet. Mine's got a little pink giong on in the comb area too. Maybe RED RED is what to look out for but I'm no expert. All my chicks are getting a little pink in the comb area, I think that's normal but I'm brand new to this.

Awww thanks! I just noticed wattles growing in on my blrw(same age) but not on the BR. I am so happy that my chick is a girl--she was the only survivor from my very first hatch and there is just something special about getting to keep her! Especially after I had to work hard to get her to walk(she has curled toes).

So 2 girls? Just from the color it would be really hard to tell! Are any cock a doodling yet? When does that start? Love the pics!!! I am glad you come back and update! It is so nice to see the babies growing up!!

I fear 2 girls is all I have from a batch of 6. Ugh!! But as far as I know we have had only one cock a doodling so far. It seems to be the same one each morning that will do it and it does it consistently 3 times in a row. Oddly enough it is not the one I expected to hear from first. Spaz is who we all suspected would lead the way as he matured quicker than all the others but not a peep from him yet. I am happy to keep coming back with updates. Hopefully it will help someone else along the way. I am going to have to find homes for 3 of the roos if indeed we have 4. I currently have a red-sex link gone broody and purchased some fertile Blue/Blue Splash Marans eggs from a local farm for her to sit on. I am curious what my luck on hens will be with that batch of 9 eggs.
