Hi all,

I’ve got 4x 4.5 week old beautiful double silver laced barnevelders and I’m wondering about their sex. I’ve heard barnies can be hard as the combs can pink up early.

My guesses are; light blue and black bands = roos. Pink and white bands = pullets.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

My guess is three boys and a girl, in that order, but it’s just a guess! I think the third might just be a bit slower to mature. Their chest feathers are pretty solid black, and I think girls usually show some lacing, though not always at this age.

I’ve never had this breed before but have always wanted them. Would love to see pictures as they grow! :)

Thanks guys! Hoping for 2 of each but either way; they will end up in good homes. I’m really gutted coz the most obvious Pullet was actually killed by our cat on Monday 😔

I’ll take some photos of their feathering and lacing to help, too!

I’m so sorry you lost one of your chicks. I hope I’m wrong and you get your two pullets at least. We’ll just have to wait and see!

Here are some body/feather pics (gosh they’re hard to get photos of aren’t they?!)

White band has significantly more feathers and her lacing looks quite different to the other 3.. 3 cockerels and 1 pullet seems to be gaining in votes!

5 weeks now! The only one I’m really stumped on is Pinky (pink band). Comb growth is much slower compared to Bluey and Blacky and closer in colour to white bands.

Have compared in pics below with shots of feathering/lacing.

I'd say first is a pullet, the second one I'm on the fence, and third is definitely a cockerel.

Ohhhhhhh I see! I’m definitely certain with my boys (their behaviour is also very obvious 🤣) but was certain white band was a Pullet. Glad to hear you think Pinky is a girl!
