At 7 or 8 weeks, I'm pretty good at determining sex in most chicks I've had to figure out. So I was looking for older pullets but due to the quarantine, chicks everywhere are sold out. Found a farm that had some 4 week olds that he'd paid extra for pullets so even though sexing at that age is difficult, I took my chances as they were better than most. I posted pics of them elsewhere in here and FB for info on how they might turn out and a woman responded that one was a boy. Ugh. Now at first glance, both chicks appear very similar....distribution of pattern, degree of feathering, length of wings/tail feathers, etc. The only differences that stand out is one is a little larger...as is its comb. But when dealing with hybrids, I'd expect that. So I took both out and really scrutinized them and darn it, one does appear to be a cockerel. The legs are thicker, the head does seem more masculine and as small as the comb is, it is larger/darker. And he has teensy wattles. So posting pics here....first of them both and then 2 combshots of each. Thoughts?

Hello all! Wondering thoughts of sex for this 5 week EE, Pidgey. It's comb started getting a little pinker so it's making me question. I also saw some knowledgeable folks comment about dark red near the shoulders.

our 2 week old ee is the largest of my baby chicks. A barred rock, black Australorp, and buff orpington, which are supposed to be larger than ee?. I know she's little but wondering if you suspect she is a rooster? She's not very friendly, the only one that doesn't come and jump up for us, but I don't know? Ha, I mean I've never had chicks so really, I don't know.

Hi all! We are newbies & just started with our first flock. We have three EEs and three RIRs... One of the EE’s seemed a bit older than the others- or potentially it’s a cockerel? We are also guessing they are 4-5ish weeks old? The first one is the most friendly and loves attention! The second is the largest one- loves to jump around and seems to be pinking in the comb? Third seems very pullet-y ;-)

Would love to hear your thoughts on age & sex. Thank you!! 🐣
