Sexing green cheek conure. Help????

My vet wants to charge me the cost of a visit plus what it will cost to do the test. All together that would put me $100+ I think I will be fine not knowing for that price.

Your conure should be seeing the vet, anyway, for a new-bird physical and yearly check-ups. Adding the cost of sexing to the first of these visits doesn't make much of a difference. I can understand if you were just "given" this bird that you might not have funds available right now for a vet visit, but it is really part of the cost of having a pet parrot. After the first one, if you simply put a a few dollars a week every week into a jar, you'll be saving enough for yearly check-ups.

I heard of sexing amazons by the way they perch and the shape of their head and stuff, but I think DNA is the most accurate way.

When I started out on my own, I set aside a small savings account just for bird vet expenses. They can get pricey in a hurry, and it's part of responsibly owning one of these long lived birds.

One of my African greys broke a blood feather and got some blood on the newspaper below. I took advantage of the situation and sent a small piece of the paper with blood on it as a sample to the lab. Turns out my "chuckles" is a GIRL

I think it cost me about $20.00 total and I used a lab I found online.

Did you end up using one of the kits? I got a Green Cheek as a baby....named "him" Abner and didn't want to spend the money to find out for sure. Just after his 5th hatchday, I found 4 eggs in the happy hut. We call her Abbie now....lol.

Not yet. We ending up give the green cheek to an uncle who really doesnt care about the sex lol. We have 2 sun conures right now that we are thinking about doing it with though.

Yes he was just given to me so i didnt have the money at that point. I do understand the importance of taking a new pet to the vet and I always do when I "plan" to adopt or buy a pet. Since this one was a suprise i really didnt have the money and he was given to an uncle within the next couple of weeks who then took care of that. I currently have 2 sun conures who are up to date on their vet check ups and very happy birdies lol.
