Hi all,
My original order from Ideal contained 2 Buckeyes, 2 Easter Egger, and 2 Welsummer. I feel pretty good abot the Welsummers as both have reddish breasts. Need some help with the buckeyes and the remaining Easter egger. These are all 7 weeks old now.

Buckeye #1 - I’m thinking pullet?

Buckeye #2 - hopefully pullet?

Easter Egger - this one I’m not sure about. Larger than others, thick legs, reddish comb, but I’m not seeing wattles, etc.

The Easter Egger's almost certainly a rooster. They don't really develop wattles. So far, both of the buckeyes look like pullets to me, but I'm not familiar with that breed.

I agree, the EE does look like a rooster. I'm speaking from experience, my EE looked similar (except for color). The buckeyes do look like like pullets. But don't be fooled, i once had chickens i was almost certain were pullets but then one day they started crowing. But i think they are pullets.

Thanks. Here are the 4 smaller EEs, 5 weeks old now.

EE #4 - this one has a little bit of a crossed beak/scissor beak. Doesn’t stop it from eating or drinking and it’s as active and growing as everyone else. If there is one of these 4 that I think might be a roo, it would be this one.

Well they’ve all grown up now and I can report that the one EE is a cockerel. He’s actually turned out to be a “good” boy so far - respectful of my space, no aggression, starting to dance for the ladies and call them for treats.

The second buckeye turned out to be a boy as well - and he’s a piece of work. Was fine for a long time and then started the aggressive behavior. He side steps at me, ruffles his feathers, lowers his head toward me and has flown/attacked me a few times. We’ve had a few “discussions’ when this has happened and each time he’ll be better for a few days until he tries again. The EE is the dominant cockerel and the buckeye is fine with him and the flock, just not me. He’s a beautiful bird and since it’s just me interacting with the flock (no kids or pets) I’ve kept him for now.

The other 4 younger EEs are all pullets.
Thanks, Medda
