Hello, I have seven chicks - all 5 weeks tomorrow. I've posted some pictures of them below to see if you can help me sex them. As they are a mixture of different breeds and colours it's v hard to compare them against each other. Also, though they are all from the same hatch, three came to us 2 weeks later (replacing one that died) and were less feathered and a bit smaller than the ones I'd had from day 1. I've put a * next to those three

I have a feeling that the lemon pekin (1) looks like a roo but it did feather up first and is by far the calmest and most docile which confused me. The gold wyandotte (2) is the least friendly of the flock and is the biggest bird so I think maybe that's a roo too. I wonder if one of the other pekins might be as well...

Thanks!

Absolutely will give it lots more time - this is more out of curiosity than anything else. Here they are as attachments. Edited to put them in the right order and added the breeds.

I'd say you are right on your lemon pekin. The mille fleur may be too - are its wattles growing? I think I can see wattles there though it's comb is still pretty small. I found the rate of feathering had nothing to do with gender. Mine all feathered at the same rate, and I found the boys were friendly little things, but so we're some of the girls.

Chick #2 has quite a red comb so it may turn out to be a roo. The Silkie will keep you guessing for ages and none of the others stand out at this point as being suspect.

Thanks! I'll see if I can get a better pic of the slightly suspicious mille fleur when I bring them in later. Good to know about the feathering too. I was thinking 2's comb looked suspicious but I did read something about rose combs in wyandottes often being redder so am holding out hope! We'd love one roo but more will be tricky.
