this is my first post, tho I've been registered a while. I am a little disturbed at this point. I bought 6 day old chicks from TSC, and the girl there swore she had chickens and new how to sex them, with their wing, and I was suspecting 2 reds of being roo's because their combs and waddles are much larger, they are bouncier and more active, but very sweet to me. Now, after going through a million forum posts, I suspect all of my cochins. ALL of my birds except 1 have larger combs than almost any photo I've seen. TSC forced me to by the min. 6, and now they may all have to go!!!! One left? it isn't right to have one lonesome hen. I live in the city where roosters are not allowed, so I will have to find new homes before they start crowing... I cannot bear to kill one, they are all too sweet. Now articles VS. forums tell a different story, they say not to go by comb size etc, because looks are not accurate, many people claim to have sexed wrong.... grrrr I do know my 2 reds have thicker legs, curly feathers at the neck etc. The Cochins are all the same...Please tell me somebody has combs this big on their pullets??? Full grown chickens do...
