Sexing my ducks

Interesting. I thought mallards were one full and sometimes one broken stripe, and rouens were two full stripes. Learn something new every day I guess. They are adorable.
They still look like mallard but time will tell. If they turn out to be gigantic then they are rouens. If they stay small, then mallards. Also might be able to tell if the hatchery they came from, removed a back toe.
Back toe??

Back toe??
From what I've learned here, hatcheries have to mark domestic mallards in some way to show they are domestic and not wild mallards. So when I was buying mine at TSC I told the employee I needed to see the back legs of them to make sure they were mallard and not rouen. I knew which hatchery they got them from (I asked) and I already had mallards from that hatchery so I knew what to look for. Look at the back of their legs near their feet. Do both sides look the same?

I will next time I put them in to swim ... interesting.. thanks for sharing

You can vent sex them but wouldn't recommend it unless you know what your doing and then still possibly could die. I've been doing it for years and still have a few die every year normally the males not sure why that is. That is only way you would know for sure at that age.

I did not see any difference in toes ...?time will tell I guess

I’m not interested in doing that.... not only dangerous if not done right it could kill my ducks... I’ll wait.. there only 4 weeks old but sooo big already..😊

That's why I caution before doing it. It is very very real possibility of death with doing it. But they grow super fast.

Yeah I knew a farmer that knew how to do it years ago when I had 3 Peking ducks that were beloved pets ...every day when my boys and I got home they’d run up to greet us at our car.....

That is how I got taught by my great grandfather on the farm. So I've seen a lot I'm only 35 but it's a lost art anymore knowing anything about the farm seems like. Disgusting honestly

I guess lol but farmers are necessary...

Yes they are 100% what I mean by disgusting is how very few of the younger generations are willing to learn about it or work on a farm. They are happy with going to grocery store getting there food and not caring about where it came from nor how it got to where it is. Idk just touchy subject.
Good luck with the ducks
