sexing peachicks

frenchblackcopper - Really? :) ?? why do you say that?? is there something you see or by the way he acts? we still can't make up our minds about midnight (bs). I know its going to be a while before we know for sure, it's so exciting watching them grow, they change so quickly. i should post new picts. at 7 weeks we noticed color on the other two, a little on necks and now on their crowns. midnight however stopped looking like he was turning black and now loooks alot more rusty colored. let me upload some picts and post them. :) looking forward to seeming more picts of everyone elses also :) They're sooo cute.

Country - one of yours def looks like a girl to me. looks like its darker with no barring - or the pict was fuzzy.... they never stay still :)

You can't tell the sex of the baby by the coloring of your bs at that age on post 64. But, within a few weeks you should see darker feathers coming in at the bottom neck area if it's a male. From that pic, you have a 50/50 chance of it being a male.

Country - Pieds are so hard to tell because you don't have their whole back to look at for barring.

NateinFL - thank you. IDCare what they are M/F. but its fun to try n guess... what do you think now that she's all rusty colored and lost most of the black? in these picts it looked like she was going to turn all black, looked more black every day, then all of a sudden she's all rusty mostly. midnight just keeps us guessing...

here's more picts :) all at 6.5 weeks old, just before their color started comming in.

all three midnight - middle - started turning rusty/sienna, a week later she's almost all rusty colored :) houdini left and george right.

good pict of all three's backs.

perching - L2R - Houdina, Midnight and George. compared to the next pict. Houdini and Midnight are closer in size. George is much larger. But the rusty flights now make me think midnight is a boy. George's size = boy. Houdini's size = girl. we'll see eventually :)

Houdina and Midnight

Good pict of all three's sides.

George up close

Houdina up close - dont have one of Midnight, Wouldn't let me take a pict - the camera scared him/her (who knows) :(

and Houdina displaying :) with Midnight close by.

We put these chicks in the barn, still in the cage and covered at night with a blanket. and heat lamp still on at 4-5 weeks old. they've done fine. they're 7.5 weeks old now and the cage isn't enough room. (it's huge but i think they'll be happier) we are building a lean to enclosed area for them against our barn. with a horse trailor as they're inside area. i'm putting the heat lamp in the trailer and closing the doors at night. they're gonna have over 300 sq ft of floor space and then the trailer. and its 8 ft high on one side and about 10ft on the other - so they can fly :) when its done i'll upload picts and see what ya'll think.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

Here goes...

If I was to guess, your B/S is going to be a girl. No dark feathers on head or neck thus far. The pieds, I think George is a girl also, those feathers are coming in solid....you might have to rename her Georgina :-). Houdini I say girl b/c of the brown feathers on her back are not barred but those still might be the baby feathers so I'd hold off on that guess. The way you described George's personality way back made me think girl but now I see her coloring, I think it's safe to say girl.

Glad to have a new peafowl person on the forum :-). Make sure and keep us posted on their progress.

OMgoodness they are all soooo cute!!! you're so lucky to have so many babies :) obviously i'm no good at sexing them since i can't figure mine out... but you'll def have a mixed bunch with so many :) Lets keep updating every week n see what they end up being.

I havn't seen a thread that follows their growth for very long. i was thinking of starting one to show them from birth to a year. right now i think i take more picts of the chicks than our kids :)

the one pict of poppy looks like little to no barring so best guess at this point girl? and pipper has tons of barring - so boy? lucky you!!!
