wait for it =)

piper: mom what are we waiting for?

piper was not impressed with poppys show

after the show a nap was warranted

figured id just keep up with my thread and post my pics here.

so is he just a light IB or??

the 2 babies that i hatched out.
1 more dryin off and 1 egg still goin.
both suppose to be IB but 1 baby looks different

and then theres these 2 guys.
drove over an hour to get them.
was told they are silver pied.
doubting that tho.
they are different than the IB
and i seen the parents. a beautiful silver pied male and a pied hen.

They are not bs silver pied. If they were blackshoulder they would be the same color as other blackshoulder when they hatched. Just a little peachy color on the wings. They have way too much color to be regular silver pied. If they are out of silver pied, they are most likely dark pied white-eyed. I'll try to hunt down one of my photos from last year.

2 silver pied, 1 bs silver pied and 1 white-eyed

I'd certainly agree they are not BS, and if the parents were a silver pied dad and a pied (not silver pied, but just pied) mom then they are probably just carrying those genes and will be blue birds. The one that looks different is probably carrying the white eye gene (the other one may not be). Having a copy (or some say two copies... Deerman always told me one copy, and yours can't have two with only one parent - the silver pied - having it) of the white eye gene would give the chick a lighter appearance and a 'frosted' look when they are adults (and white eyes on their train feathers if they are males).

Dark pied out of silver pied:

thanks guys.
no we see why i doubted what he said. i knew silver pied chicks were light colored.

no as for the chick in the first 2 pics??
i hatched him myself.
actually had 2 like that hatch. and one that looks like a regular IB
and now a pied just popped outa the last egg.
so are they a different color?

The thing about silver pied is that it's an interaction of the pied, white, and white-eye genes all working together. That's why when you hatch from a pure silver pied pen, you get whites, silver pieds, and dark pieds. If he's got a silver pied male over a pied hen, it's quite possible you'd be seeing pieds as well.

As for the light chick in the first 2 pics- same as I said above, the white-eye gene (which the chick could have inherited from his father) often presents in a "frosty" look to the bird; a lighter color. If that bird is significantly lighter than the other, there's a good possibility it's got a white-eye gene. If it's a hen you won't see much of a difference- just an overall lighter color. If it's a male, when he grows his train some of the eyes on the feathers may be white instead of black. Tell us: do either of the dark chicks have white flight feathers? Even just a couple. Fan their wings out and take a close look.

a white eye peacock from google:

1st and 2nd pic is a 3 year old white-eyed hen. 3rd pic is a yearling white-eyed male.
