Sexing Pekins

Hi, the size is not indicative of the bird..a duck can lay smaller ones and bigger ones. Here are some from Peanut : some small and some large

Congratulation peanut ! ! I cant wait for my Ducks to lay .... If they could star before thanksgiving, I always make the bread and they said duck eggs are the thing for bread. :)

She has laid 3 eggs in one day but one will be soft if she does that. Also, she has laid double yolks. We have opened a few. Can a double yolk be fertilized and hatch two ducks from one egg?

Well the pond is done and the babies are having a ball. The first minute and a half are showing their mating behavior but I was told by many that they are two females ... I guess this is just dominance ...
male and female. Unless one wasn't peeping... Thought I heard peeping..

I thought you were only supposed to get one egg per day per bird? (sweet Jesus, I may be in for a treasure hunt then?)
Our ducks free range, and get a little feed too. I find that their eggs need lots of flavoring---garlic, onion powder and such. They seem to have a gamy flavor?? I mix them with chicken eggs. They do great for baking. I also feed them to my dogs if I have an excess. (and they never complain :D ) There are times when the eggs are slightly different in shape--more oval or less. I never caught double yolks with ducks (yet), because they are such sneaky little buggars. I have with chicks though. I think that only happens in the beginning?

If your ducks didn't free range, the eggs would taste better. left to their own devices, they eat lots of snails, slugs, and beetles so that creates interesting flavors. So do their habits of munching on some dirt. Double yolks can happen anytime.

I give a lot of snacks to my ducks, like lettuce, cucumber, red cabbage, carrot... U think that will make good tasting eggs or should I modify their diet before they lay? :)

The only non-duck food we give the babies is either steamed squash and zuccini or watermellon (their favorite) the eggs tasted just like chicken eggs. The do free range but we have a decent yard and my wife said they tasted good hard boiled too.
