sexing salmon favorelles

Maybe it's just me, maybe it's the lighting, but I swear one of those photos has primaries that are black. Image 7621. Those look to be what 3 wks old. Our male Salmon got his feathers (black) fairly early and he was easily distinguishable from that time as male. The female will only have the light brown, and like the name, it's a a ruddy reddish brown. We got our two at the same time, she clearly was a female and him a male (once main feathering started).Unfortunately she only lived until 6 wks (a snake suffocated her couldn't eat because she was to big so he regurgitated her).

Look @ this thread. This is a male. And by 4 weeks those dark feathers are telltale with salmons (especially the chest area). The good thing is they make beautiful roosters, but they are heavy, one of the biggest roosters we've ever had (the biggest I should say). This is ours, Sammy. And while our largest rooster, he is a mega scaredy cat. I wish I had pics of him as a baby on my phone, I'd have to check my computer. If I find any I'll send so you can compare.
