Sexing Shmexing....

I think the best thing to do is buy pullets at point of lay, so you know they are girls.

One of the most difficult breeds to sex is Silkies. If you buy any day olds even up to 4 mos. you are taking a gamble. The younger the chick, the bigger the risk. Generally they can't be sexed accurately until 4-5 mos. But some - not until they crow or lay eggs.

They are so darn cute that people buy them from bins, etc. only to complain later that they can't have roosters and they got a bunch of them. Both sexes are super cute - but cute doesn't last long when they start crowing.
