Sexing Silkie Chicks????

That is probably a hen. How big is it? From the looks of what comb it has, I would say its a hen.

I raise silkies too and usually by 8 weeks I can tell by the crest of the bird. Look from the side view and male crests will swoop toward the back. I call this the "elvis" look. Female crests will be much rounder. And will NOT swoop toward the back. They have to be at least 8 weeks for this to work but this method
has been pretty spot on for me. Make sure you look
side view only because from the front some males
can appear round. But its the side view that gives
them away. You might want to wait another week
then post a side profile picture and then I can help
determine the sex . Right now with the pics you have I'm leaning toward male but its a bit young just yet and id really like to see a closer picture of the side view.i tired to zoom but it won't let me. Can you post another picture with a closer shot of the side view of the bird? Females tend to have a perfectly round pom pom on their heads . although the crest is still developing by around 8 weeks this trait is seen where as males crest will swoop toward the back from the side view and with some birds streamers can be seen beginning to develop as early as that also. Streamers will only appear on males. I can't say for sure with your bird yet I would really like to see a closer side view pic of it. Also its a little young. I've had males with very female combs so I don't really go by that but soon the crest will give it away. Give it a couple more weeks and if you notice the crest swooping toward the back then its male. But if you notice a round pom pom both from side view then its female. . this method has always served me well with my silkies. I can't have males where I live so if I get them I need to rehome them as soon as possible. I've been pretty spot on with this method but they do have to be at the least eight weeks old for this to be reliable. Sooner than that is a little young. I can show you a picture of a female crest and you will notice how perfectly round it is. Males although round swoop toward the back. Here is one of my hens. See how perfectly round her crest is? I hope this helps.

I am sort of new at raising chickens, but don't rely on "if it crows, it's a roo". My frizzle just recently started to crow for attention. She has always been very vocal, but this is ridiculous. I just pretend like I don't hear her and she stops. Too funny!
