Sexing silkie mixes.....U and V shape comb determine gender true or false?

Hey i have four 5 week silie mixes..... i read that you can determine gender by the U and V shapes of their combs is this true?

silkies have walnut combs not V or U shaped combs. It looks like a little external purple brain on their heads!
 
Yeah mine are not there yet looks like i just have to be patient dad was a silkie mum was either a serama or speckled pekin got eggs off a family member as i have black rocks and other hybrids have no idea lol

I know its difficult as they silkie mixes and so young but any guesses appreciated 🥰🥰
 
Ok, I've just checked that article out.

What I think he meant, but didn't explain very clearly, is the shape of the flat comb across the top of the beak when the bird is very young and before it grows all walnutty. So a broader base to the comb area (U) compared to a pointy base (V).

Having said all that I have no idea if it's true! I can't remember how my chickens' combs grew in. But it makes sense from my interpretation of it.
