Sexing Silkie

Definitely a hen.

Look at how she stands;

look at her tail--males have a much fuller, taller tail and also have saddle feathers--think of how other breed roos hold their tail. A silkie rooster does the same, but he has a fatter tail;

check out her crest; no streamers or longer hackles.

Mine started laying right at 6 months. That is when my friend's Silkies always start laying too. My roos started crowing sooner! One much sooner!! When I told my friend she said it couldn't be, but it was! He is the alpha roo, so I guess he was staking his claim early!
